I-66 EMP Teams Up With Nonprofit Partners To Make Holidays Brighter For Families In Need
66 Express Outside the Beltway Operator Makes $12,000 in Donations to Fight Food Insecurity, Holds Food and Coat Drives To Help Local Kids
Manassas, Va. December 14, 2023 – Coming off the first anniversary of the 66 Express Outside the Beltway in November, it’s been a busy season of holiday giving for the transformative roadway’s builder and operator, I-66 Express Mobility Partners (I-66 EMP). The consortium of global transportation infrastructure companies has provided $12,000 in monetary donations to local food banks and conducted drives to collect food and winter clothing, directly benefiting thousands of families throughout Northern Virginia.
In November and December, I-66 EMP made donations totaling $5,000 to Northern Virginia Family Service, helping fund the nonprofit’s holiday giving programs, including the delivery of holiday meal packages to food-insecure families around the region.
In addition, I-66 EMP established a new partnership with Haymarket Regional Food Pantry, making a $2,000 donation Nov. 17 to help the western Prince William County food bank purchase enough milk and eggs to provide their clients with those perishable staples for a week.
On Nov. 9, I-66 EMP made a donation of $5,000 to the Power Pack program operated by Fairfax-based Food For Others, providing 7,500 nutritious meals plus milk, juice, and healthy snacks to approximately 1,250 food-insecure students attending 52 public schools in Fairfax County.
That donation complemented the company’s food drive, held the first half of November, which raised 386 pounds of canned meats, fruit, beans, rice, cereal, juice, spaghetti sauce, and cooking oil to support the clients of Food For Others.
To enjoy a great holiday season, families need more than a great meal. I-66 EMP has teamed with nonprofit partners to ensure that local kids can stay warm and have fun as well.
Continuing its efforts to back the blue, I-66 EMP partnered with Virginia State Police in the fourth annual Stuff-a-Cruiser toy drive, held Dec. 2 in Dumfries and Dec. 9 in Chantilly. They successfully stuffed two full cruisers and the unwrapped toys were donated to local Toys For Tots programs in Fairfax and Prince William counties.
At present, I-66 EMP is working with Manassas-based Boxes of Basics on a winter outerwear and coat drive to benefit Prince William County kids. The company expects to deliver the new, or clean, gently used clothing – donated by I-66 EMP employees and members of the public – to Boxes of Basics after the New Year.
“As we begin our second year as a successful, reliable transportation option in the I-66 corridor, we feel a duty and are humbled to give back to the community that has supported the 66 Express Outside the Beltway project thus far,” said Nancy H. Smith, corporate affairs director for I-66 EMP, “We thank all our wonderful nonprofit partners in the region, and we’re glad to help them make the 2023 holiday season brighter and more fulfilling for families across Northern Virginia.”
