66 EXPRESS OTB ASSISTS WILLING WARRIORS WITH A LITTLE SPRING CLEANING

On Earth Day, I-66 EMP Volunteers Help Beautify the Warrior Retreat Home in Haymarket, Va.

MANASSAS – Tuesday, April 25, 2023 – After an impromptu volunteer session April 6, a group of I-66 Express Mobility Partners (EMP) employees and associates went to the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run on Earth Day, April 22, to do some spring cleaning for the not-for-profit Willing Warriors organization.

On a magnificent springtime Saturday morning, a dozen volunteers from I-66 EMP made the trip to a bucolic area of western Prince William County to remove dead bushes, spread mulch, and spruce up the grounds of the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, a beautiful home-like facility operated by Willing Warriors for military service members to recover from injury or trauma. The I-66 EMP group also brought a skid-steer front-loader to provide heavy lifting.

It was I-66 EMP’s second volunteer session at the Warrior Retreat within three weeks. A group of seven volunteers and a 66 Express Outside the Beltway flatbed truck were on hand April 6 to remove weeds and distribute and spread mulch. The session was a make-up for a planned Beautification Day April 1, which was canceled due to weather.

“The I-66 team did an amazing job completing tasks our regular volunteers could not handle,” said Dianne Polk, Director of Operations for the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run. “Without the support of the community and companies like I-66 EMP, it would be impossible to offer this special gift to our Wounded Warriors and their families.”

The volunteer cleanups are a visible demonstration of I-66 EMP’s commitment to enhancing quality of life for all residents of Northern Virginia, including and especially active-duty service members, their families, and veterans.

“We had a great time working with our friends at Willing Warriors to beautify the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run,” said Nancy H. Smith, Director of Corporate Affairs for I-66 EMP. “It brings us a lot of joy to know we helped make the Retreat even better for our nation’s heroes in uniform. We look forward to volunteering there again.”

“Our partnership with Willing Warriors is a perfect example of our mission of giving back,” said Luis Vazquez, CEO of I-66 EMP. “We’re committed to being an excellent corporate citizen in the region, and there’s no better way to show it than by helping our local veterans enjoy their stay at the Warrior Retreat.”

Willing Warriors operates The Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, a 37-acre estate overlooking the historic Bull Run Mountains in Haymarket, Virginia. The Retreat features two beautifully appointed ADA-accessible homes offering wounded Warriors and their families no-cost five-night respite stays.
