66 EXPRESS LANES AND FOOD FOR OTHERS COMPLETE SUCCESSFUL COLLECTION DRIVE
Nearly 600 Pounds of Food Delivered to the Fairfax-Based Organization To Fight Hunger Over the Holidays
MANASSAS – December 5, 2022 – Thanks to the generosity of both customers and employees of the 66 Express Lanes Outside the Beltway, a total of 596 pounds of food – including both non-perishable and fresh items – was collected for Fairfax-based food pantry Food For Others in just one week. The donation was delivered Nov. 23, in time for Thanksgiving.
The delivery comes at a good time, as Food For Others has seen a recent 42% drop in food-drive donations.
“Food drives have a tremendous impact at Food For Others,” said Anna Slaten, Director of Development and Outreach with Food For Others. “This holiday season many families are experiencing food insecurity due to inflation and the lingering effects of COVID-19. Food prices have increased by 10%, pushing new families to seek emergency food assistance. Food For Others functions to provide a critical safety net for these families.”
The food drive is the most recent example of the 66 Express Lanes, and its operator I-66 Express Mobility Partners, partnering with local nonprofits to make a positive difference in the lives of Northern Virginians. Other community partners have included Feed More, the Capital Area Food Bank, the Prince William County Public Schools Foundation, and the Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools.
“We’re delighted by the results of this food drive and look forward to holding another one,” said Luis Vazquez, CEO of I-66 Express Mobility Partners, operators of the 66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway. “Giving back to the communities we serve is a primary part of our mission.”
“Knowing that Food For Others has experienced a 42% decline in food drive donations, we felt we had to step up,” said Nancy H. Smith, Director of Corporate Affairs for I-66 Express Mobility Partners. “It’s truly gratifying to see our team and our customers fill this need and help our neighbors like this.”
