I-66 EMP Funds Scholarships for 10 Students at Tech Adventure Camp
66 Express Operator Contributes $2,750 to FCPS’s Weekly Summer Education Program
Manassas, Va. April 22, 2024 – At a check presentation held today, I-66 Express Mobility Partners (I-66 EMP), the builder and operator of the 66 Express Outside the Beltway, provided $2,750 to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to cover needs-based scholarships for 10 students to attend Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) this summer.
Tech Adventure Camp is a weekly summer enrichment program offering elementary-age students (kindergarten through fifth grade) in Fairfax County the opportunity to explore subjects such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), art, health, business, marketing, technical trades, and more.
“We’re extremely pleased to receive this donation from I-66 Express Mobility Partners,” said Dr. Lynette Henry, Educate Fairfax’s executive director. “This money will give 10 deserving students facing economic hardship the chance to experience Fairfax County Public Schools Tech Adventure Camp and inspire their future careers. This summer camp is designed to give students the opportunity to explore STEAM, culinary, health, trades, business and marketing. We’re very thankful to I-66 Express Mobility Partners for making a difference in the lives of our students. We look forward to continuing this partnership and achieving even greater successes together in the future.”
The contribution continues I-66 EMP’s strong support of education, particularly STEM education, in Fairfax County and throughout Northern Virginia. During 2023, I-66 EMP contributed a total of $25,000 to Educate Fairfax, the Education Foundation for FCPS. That total includes a $5,000 donation to the Kids In Need Fund, which provides essential school supplies for students from disadvantaged households, and $20,000 to provide lab equipment and programming for the STEM-oriented Innovators Fund.
In addition, the roadway operator provided judges and a $10,000 contribution to the Prince William-Manassas Regional Science and Engineering Fair in March 2024. That followed a $23,000 donation in September 2023 to SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, to fund the installation of new STEM-focused maker spaces at five (5) Title I middle schools.
“STEM education programs like the Tech Adventure Camp are exactly what we strive to support here in Northern Virginia,” said Nancy H. Smith, corporate affairs director for I-66 EMP. “We’re happy to build upon our great partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, and we’re excited to see what innovative ideas these students come up with.”
