We welcome a wide range of vehicles on the 66 Express Outside the Beltway. Commercial trucks, 18-wheelers, and work vans rely on the lanes every day. Commuters and carpoolers take advantage of predictable travel. And motorcycles always ride the 66 Express for free!

Part of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Transform 66 initiative, the 66 Express Outside the Beltway is a technologically advanced, dynamically tolled roadway spanning 22.5 miles between Gainesville and the Capital Beltway.

The lanes are divided into toll segments – three eastbound, four westbound – with multiple exits in each segment. Drivers are charged a single toll rate to reach any of the exits in that segment.

Based on real-time conditions and demand, the dynamic toll-rate system keeps traffic moving at all times, regardless of congestion on the general-purpose lanes.
