Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 66 Express?

I-66 from the Capital Beltway (I-495) to Gainesville now features two Express Lanes and three general-purpose lanes in each direction. An E-ZPass is required to use the lanes, and vehicles with 3 or more passengers (HOV-3+) can use them toll-free. There is no cost for using the general-purpose lanes. Please note, other entities and the Virginia Department of Transportation operate the other nearby toll facilities in Northern Virginia, and those tolls are billed separately.

Will I have to pay a toll?

No, there is no charge to use the three general-purpose lanes in each direction on 66 outside the beltway.

What is the difference between the Express lanes and general-purpose lanes?

Drivers with an E-ZPass can use the 66 Express. Express lanes are designed for drivers who want the most reliable and time-saving trip to reach a destination.
